Independent Learning Time

Independent Learning Time

“The best way to predict your future, is to create it.”

The Life Long Learner philosophy permeates throughout all dimensions of the MANUKURA culture and is carefully embedded, and reinforced in a variety of ways. As many MANUKURA students arrive with a diverse range of educational experiences, a strong emphasis is placed upon the enjoyment of learning thus increasing the receptiveness to knowledge acquisition.

Purpose

MANUKURA permeates best educational strategies to further enhance the learning of all students. MANUKURA operates with an Independent Learning Space that is designed to create independent learners who can identify their needs, strengths and to drive their academic outcomes. Furthermore, this space provides students with access to individualised support around their academic, sports and pastoral needs. Student-teacher relationships and peer to peer relationships play a big part in cultivating ready and willing dispositions.

How does Independent Learning Time work?

Our timetable is designed to provide students with a balance of tutorials and independent learning time. Students are required to create an individualised timetable that helps them plan each day. Independent Learning Time (ILT) varies for each student based on the courses they have enrolled in.

The ILT space allows students to make learning a priority by:

  • identifying their academic needs
  • making contact with tutorial staff for further support
  • opting into workshops that extend learning in a variety of ways
