Our Curriculum

Curriculum Delivery

"The purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows."

Curriculum delivery is face to face by MANUKURA personnel in all subject areas. Class sizes are small to ensure high engagement levels and strong connections exist in the learning environment. To further maximise the intimacy and appropriate targeting of student needs, classes are often team taught and or reconfigured into smaller groups for teaching.

MANUKURA has also evolved so that all programmes are offered online via distance learning. This reflects our determination to help students learn independently and furthermore, provide a facility that promotes further engagement and extension. Students' individual plans are reviewed regularly to ensure they are "living documents" focused on each students' short, medium and long term outcomes.

Currently MANUKURA offer a full range of subjects:

  • Biology, Chemistry, Physics and General Science
  • Digital Technology, Food Technology,
  • Mathematics, Statistics & Calculus
  • English, Te Reo Māori / Te Reo Rangatira
  • Visual and Performing Arts - including Music and Māori Performing Arts
  • Health & Physical Education
  • STAR, Gateway and Agricultural programmes are offered in conjunction with UCOL (Universal College of Learning) for career advancement within the Senior school.

Moving forward there is a determination to integrate curriculum areas and move to a more future focussed delivery pedagogy and purpose. By design and implementation there is a greater intention to teach the core competencies required as students move beyond the confines of the current educational paradigms of amassing silos of knowledge. Rather they will be encouraged to inquire and investigate with a purpose to use new knowledge to find solutions to enhance their communities wellness.

At the core of our education programmes is literacy (including digital & financial) and numeracy. MANUKURA is committed to ensuring our students are competent and confident in their academic programmes. Therefore our small class sizes and specialist instruction in these areas ensures our students achieve and that their growth is measured and celebrated.
