MANUKURA Netball

"Be comfortable being uncomfortable."

Winning games and championships is a finite goal, but using sport as a catalyst for social change is everlasting.

Our History

MANUKURA (TŪ TOA) netball was the founding sports code beginning with a team in 2005 that challenged for the opportunity to compete in the Lower NISS Tournament, eventually winning this tournament and later that year placing 3rd at the NZSS netball Championship. Since then, MANUKURA has continued a legacy that has established our programme amongst the elite secondary schools in NZ, having competed at the NZSS championship every year since 2005.

Our Commitment

A further focus for our netball programme is the importance placed on educational application and our commitment to kaupapa Māori. If invited to speak, we ensure that te reo Māori precedes our address to acknowledge, normalise and celebrate this taonga. This was epitomised by Sheridan Bignall (former student and coach) when as the captain of the Central Manawa BEKO team won the national championship.

Over the past years we have been privileged to have former students return to MANUKURA to assist with our Netball programme. Not only do they bring a wealth of netball knowledge they bring with them a deep understanding of MANUKURA values and philosophy.
